Mission & Vision
Sol y Barrio’s goal is to Represent, Cultivate, and Celebrate the stories of our undocumented immigrant selves, families, and those shaped by them — la gente del barrio.
Through style, culture and selfhood we aim to inspire pride in our work, and those who wear it.
Not just a brand; We are a movement driven by purpose and intention. Grounded on our dicho, “Que en el barrio, también sale el sol.”, we move with the knowledge that despite life’s barriers, the sun continues to rise — and we are here to rise and shine with it.
Meet the Founder
Irvin Gómez is a Mexican-born, Los Angeles–raised artist, cultural advocate, and storyteller whose work lives at the intersection of art, media, y communidad.
A graduate of UC San Diego with a double major in Media and Business Psychology, he has dedicated his journey to amplifying underrepresented voices and creating spaces where culture and storytelling drive meaningful impact. His experience in student resource centers like the Raza Resource Centro and Undocumented Student Services led him to co-found Nueva Herencia, a nonprofit focused on supporting Latinx students through community, academics, and networking. Since then, Gómez has contributed to campaigns, festivals, and community-driven projects across Los Angeles through outreach and public relation efforts for large-scale cultural events like Mid City Mercado’s Día de los Muertos Festival.
Rooted in his upbringing as an immigrant child of immigrant parents, his work is driven by the belief that when spaces don’t exist, we create them—for ourselves and for those who come after us. Through media, cultural organizing, and storytelling, Gómez continues to build platforms that honor resilience, celebrate identity, and invite deeper connection con la gente del barrio.
